How to Enhance Your Amherstburg Uncommon Experience

When attending the Amherstburg Uncommon Festival, you can brush up on the history of steampunk and prepare your Harry Potter outfit, but there are other ways to get so much more out of the festival. In this post you will find many different ways to enhance your experience. We’ll highlight events, activities, food, and performances to make this Uncommon Festival your best one yet. Please note that all of these events have limited seating, so act fast and reserve your seat now, as tickets for these activities can be purchased pre-event.

As previously mentioned, a hat is a must for any Steampunk aficionado. If you don’t have your own, you can attend our Make and Take Fascinator and Top Hat Workshops. Guests are guided by the proprietors at the Explorer’s Emporium tent to embellish fascinators and top hats with a variety of items. This is a great opportunity to adorn your outfit with those notable steampunk gears. You can pre-purchase tickets for $10-$20 (includes your hat or fascinator) at the Gordon House at 268 Dalhousie Street, or at the Explorer’s Emporium tent during the event. We recommend advance tickets for this very popular workshop as it sold out prior to the festival weekend last year.

Have you ever experienced a sideshow circus performance? Now is your chance! This year, Amherstburg Uncommon is excited to feature Carnival Diablo: The Strangest Show Unearthed. The Carnival Diablo show is described as, “an outrageous Circus Sideshow extravaganza steeped in the Victorian mysticism of the 19th century”. Perhaps you’ve seen their act on TV, as it has appeared on the Discovery Channel, A&E, CBC, and National Geographic. In fact, they were featured as a side show act for the Ringling Bros circus. You might be wondering what is a circus sideshow? The sideshow was usually a smaller attraction that was located just outside the main circus attraction. These shows allowed viewers to be close up to the action, and often either exhibited close up acts like magic and sword swallowing, or the “freak show” which Carnival Diablo showcases in their performance. Follow ring master Nikolai Diablo, as he transports you to a world of the freakish and bizarre, as he performs acts that take you far beyond the natural realm. This is definitely an event that you don’t want to miss. You can soon purchase tickets at $5 for this performance at the Gordon House, or online at
