Boating and Kayaking

Life is better on a boat. Get on board the Historic Amherstburg Sight Seeing cruise and enjoy a two hour long cruise learning about beautiful Amherstburg while sipping drinks and enjoying food. This is an all ages cruise, those 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Grab a Paddle. Paddle on the River Canard, shallow waters weave in and out of different municipalities across 12 (approximate) kilometers, this is the perfect place for kayak and canoe enthusiasts to explore. To paddle your way through these waters, visit River Canard Canoe which offers canoes, rowboats, paddle boards and kayaks for rent.

Hiking and Trails

Leave the road and take the trails. Amherstburg is fortunate to have some amazing hiking trails throughout the county.
Take a hike on the Big Creek trail at Big Creek conservation area. Big Creek is an important natural area that attracts masses of migrating birds.
Holiday Beach Conservation area offers nature trails with amenities such as picnic areas, an observation tower and boardwalks and washrooms.
The Libro center’s new trails feature 5km of gravel trails surrounded by nature and wildlife. Sit back and relax on a bench and take in the wonderful sounds and sights of nature.

Local Fishing

Cast your Line. Fish on the Detroit River in the Kings Navy Yard Park, Big Creek or River Canard. Muskie, Walleye, Bass, Northern Pike and more swim the Detroit river.

Biking the Burg

Ride the bike, start the adventure. Bike through Amherstburg and enjoy the scenic route. Historical architecture, natural wildlife and a stunning shoreline you are sure to have a fantastic ride. Birds in the Burg

The birds are calling! Essex County is one of North America’s premiere bird watching locations. Amherstburg has peaceful, diverse and unique habitats that attract hundreds of migratory birds. Some amazing birds you can find are Blue Jays, Red Winged Black Birds, Wood Peckers, Black-capped Chickadees, Warblers, Sparrows, Northern Cardinals and more! Each season brings in different unique birds so grab your binocular and get out there!
