Fort Malden, formally known as Fort Amherstburg, is a defence fortification located in Amherstburg, Ontario. It was built in 1796 by Britain in order to ensure the security of British North America against any potential threat of American Invasion.
Fort Malden stood guard during the war of 1812, a time when the threat of American invasion was very real. The Americans occupied this fort for almost two years after the British abandoned it following their defeat at the Battle of Lake Erie. Fort Malden commemorates a period when the destiny of Canada was determined by military action. Come discover this historic treasure!
