210th Anniversary of the burning of Fort Amherstburg

On Saturday, September 23 2023, please join us in commemorating the 210th anniversary of the Burning of Fort Amherstburg. Step back in time to learn about the events that led to the burning of Fort Malden and the American occupation of Amherstburg. As you travel from fire to fire, listen to the tales of how people in Amherstburg were suffering from lack of food and supplies, how the Royal Navy prepared to do battle on Lake Erie, and why the British decided to burn their own fort to the ground. Join us as we light the Fort ‘on fire’ to commemorate this important event in history.

Groups or individuals are encouraged to pre-register by emailing fortmalden@pc.gc.ca; walk-ins will also be welcome.

Tours are self-guided and will commence every 15 minutes, from 6:00pm to 7:15. Suitable for ages 12 and up.
